DEPARTMENT:             DIABETES EDUCATION CENTER

POSITION:                   ONE (1) PERMANENT PART TIME SOCIAL WORKER (FTE .6)

SITE:                            NBRHC-NORTH BAY

HOURS:                        ALL SHIFTS AS REQUIRED

SALARY:                     $44.67 (MIN) TO $57.91 (MAX)

Pay rate, benefits and other terms and conditions are as per the OPSEU 662 Collective Agreement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Certified Social Workers and Social Service Workers (BSW or MSW)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with adult and paediatric populations required
  • Excellent interpersonal, interviewing and counselling skills required
  • Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles combined with recent experience in facilitating groups required
  • Knowledge / experience in education curriculum development, implementation and evaluation required
  • Excellent demonstrated ability to prepare and present educational materials designed to meet the needs of clients, professional groups as well as community groups required
  • Excellent demonstrated flexibility, organizational and leadership skills required
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education is required
  • Self-directed professional who functions with minimal supervision required
  • Demonstrated team player required
  • Critical problem solving and decision making skills required
  • Excellent demonstrated ability in the areas of program development, implementation, management and evaluation required
  • Computer skills - keyboarding and software applications required
  • Diabetes knowledge base required
  • A willingness to travel; a vehicle and valid driver’s license required
  • Practical knowledge of relevant legislation required
  • Good knowledge of community resources required
  • Critical problem solving and decision making required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.  All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the French requirement has been met or if there are no successful bilingual candidates.  A formal French evaluation will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
