Manager, Clinical Services

Turning Point Youth Services (TPYS) is an accredited, multi-service, child and youth mental health centre providing a range of services to youth aged 12 to 24—as well as their families—many of whom have experienced barriers to service, marginalization, trauma, and racism.

Guided by its vision of Healthy Minds, Healthy Futures and its mission to empower youth to create positive change in their lives, TPYS is renowned for its commitment to delivering comprehensive programs and services tailored to the unique needs of the young people that it serves. The organization’s dedication to excellence and innovation is driven by a highly trained staff committed to diversity, trust, respect, and equality in the workplace, and its holistic approach to wellness—addressing the complex and varying needs of individuals with compassion, collaboration, and care—makes a profound impact on the lives of young people and their families. It is within this context that TPYS invites nominations and applications for the role of Manager, Clinical Services, a role that brings with it immediate and lasting impacts to the organization.

As a member of the senior leadership team reporting to the Director of Services, the Manager, Clinical Services provides leadership and support to the Clinical and Counselling Services (CCS) program and members of staff. Clinical and Counselling Services include community-based counseling, service coordination, intensive in-home counseling, and clinical support and case management to the live-in treatment programs. The Manager ensures that suitable therapeutic intervention methods are used within the larger clinical framework of TPYS, employing various evidence-based or informed practices. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership in mental health services, possess a deep understanding of the social determinants of health, be aware of systemic barriers to service, and have expertise in trauma-informed clinical practice.

Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the Turning Point Youth Services environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role: A) a Master’s degree in Social Work, M.A., Ph.D., or equivalent related education; B) several years of experience in a relevant clinical supervisory or management position, ideally in the health or social services fields, with experience in a unionized environment considered an asset; C) demonstrated skills in the area of mental health treatment and support for adolescents and transitional age youth, youth at risk, and marginalized and racialized communities; and; D) knowledge of, or a strong appreciation for, the Toronto Region children’s service system and relevant legislation (e.g. CYFSA, YCJA. etc.).
