Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka (GCSM) is a welcoming, non-residential cancer support community that exists so that no one faces cancer aloneTM. Our mission is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer - men, women, teens and children – are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.
Position Summary:
The Program Director (PD) is responsible for the administration, oversight and leadership of all community member-related clinical programs of Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka (GCSM); the supervision of all clinical facilitators and adjunct instructors; and the provision of direct clinical services for people of all ages affected by cancer in accordance with Cancer Support Community (CSC) global and local standards, policies and procedures.
The PD builds and maintains relationships with members, program professionals, speakers, and key programmatic constituents in the healthcare, medical and academic arenas; develops and manages the program budget, maintains program statistics and reports.
The PD reports to and works closely with the Executive Director (ED) and others to provide program statistical consultation as it relates to general operations, outreach, reporting and, on an as needed basis, participates in fundraising activities.
The Program Director is expected to keep up to date on psychosocial oncology practice and research issues, and to represent the affiliate at the CSC Annual Leadership Conference and other professional meetings. The Program Director must embody the highest professional standards and demonstrate warmth and compassion as he/she works with members, staff, volunteers and others in building and maintaining a sense of community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervision of program staff, clinical facilitators and adjunct instructors.
- Provide leadership, support, and guidance to program team.
- Empower team members with skills to improve their confidence, product knowledge, and communication skills.
- Creating a pleasant working environment that inspires the team.
- In collaboration with other GCSM staff and board, participate in the development of strategic goals and objectives as it relates to program delivery, reach and evaluation.
- Establish and maintain ongoing communication and support with program leaders on leadership values, program evaluation and operational matters.
- Orient and monitor workshop presenters, adjunct instructors and other GCSM speakers to ensure quality, fair balance, and adherence to GCSM policies. Supervise (or arrange a designee to supervise) the opening and closing of educational workshops and other special programs as well as coordinate clinical staff coverage as needed.
- Be available during office hours to respond to program questions, problems, and opportunities from members, staff (incl Facilitators), board, phone or
walk-in inquiries, outside agencies, etc. - Design and direction of a Program Calendar
- Establish and maintain administrative procedures for tracking and implementing member groups, newcomer meetings, educational workshops, mind-body programs, member social events and other relevant member-focused programs.
- Ensure accurate gathering and detailed analysis of statistical and database records.
- Attend Board of Director meetings and interact with the Board as requested by the Executive Director including, but not limited to, acting as staff liaison to the Program Committee.
- Develop and manage the program budget including forecasts, formulation of program and project priorities, and recommendations for expenditures in consultation with the ED.
- Interact with PDs from other affiliates via PD conference calls, email communications, regional and national meetings to share best practices, consultation and support.
- Inventory program materials and community resource information and reorder when needed.
- Regularly evaluate member satisfaction and program effectiveness using workshop evaluations, annual surveys of members and PAB members, and other tools.
- Conduct (or oversee a clinically trained designee in conducting) New Member Orientations for members wanting to join GCSM. Establish, implement and evaluate program strategy and priorities.
- Continuously address the changing needs of the Gilda’s Club membership and the larger landscape of living with cancer in conjunction with strategic planning and collaborative partnerships.
- Working alongside the Volunteer Coordinator, support the recruitment, training and management of volunteers.
- Represent the organization on multi-stakeholder committees and facilitate positive working relationships with other community partners.
- Actively participate in community development activities and events which fund the organization.
Education/Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience including clinical work plus program implementation and administration, ideally in a not-for-profit environment.
- A Graduate Degree in one of the following areas of practice: Social Work, Counselling, Marriage and Family Therapy along with current registration and good standing with your College, is required.
Qualifications:
- Direct experience in program development and implementation in support of diverse populations.
- Experience in individual counselling and group facilitation.
- Staffing, planning, and people management.
- Promoting process improvement.
- Computer literacy with competence in word processing, presentation and data management.
- Possess a competency around Zoom and/or Telemental Health.
- Refined written and oral communication skills including a comfort with public presentation.
- Proven interpersonal skills and an ability to work in collaboration with and in support of others as a team leader.
- An ability to prioritize workload and to manage time effectively.
- Motivated and self-reflective in clinical practice with a high degree of integrity and commitment to empowering others.
Requirements of the Position:
- Registered and in good standing with professional college and/or professional association is required.
- An ability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends.
- A current criminal reference and Vulnerable Sector check.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and valid passport
