Manager of Day Treatment – Child Family Therapy

 

York Hills is seeking a full-time permanent Manager of Day Treatment – Child Family Therapy to join our team working with children, youth and families.

 

 

About the role

Reporting to the Clinical Director of Intensive Services, the Manager of Day Treatment-Child Family Therapy is responsible for the daily operation of family therapy services and is a member of the management team.  The Manager provides leadership and direction on clinical services, strategies, planning, design, implementation, delivery and assessment of counselling services within Day Treatment and across the service system.

The Manager works as an integral part of York Hills management team and ensures that appropriate therapeutic intervention models are being utilized within the organizational clinical framework. Formulate assessment and treatment plans and provide counselling using a range of evidence-based practices, as well as provision of psycho-education as needed. Finally, the Manager is responsible for working closely with school board partners around the running of the programs and planning for client needs during and after their placement.

 

Responsibilities & Tasks

The Manager of Day Treatment – Child Family is responsible for knowing and following the organization’s Mission, Vision and Values statements as well as all other organizational and service policies and procedures.

The Manager of Day Treatment-Child Family Therapy understands and demonstrates ethical behavior and business practices, and ensures that their own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with professional standards and aligns with the values of the Organization.

Under the direction of the Clinical Director of Intensive Services, the Manager of Day Treatment – Child Family is responsible for providing service in the following areas.

 

 

  • CLINICAL MANAGEMENT
  • Ensures that service delivery in day treatment complies with legislative and accreditation standards, including the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA), CRPO and OCSWSSW accreditation standards.
  • Provides clinical leadership through maintaining knowledge of best practices and therapy models used for day treatment programs to effectively meets the needs of clients.
  • Provides direct supervision to support daily program management, the skill development of Child and Family Therapists, and ensure quality therapy experiences for families.
  • Works closely with managers on other teams (e.g. day treatment CYW’s, Community Clinical) to ensure positive teamwork between staff, planning for shared clients, and coordinated services between programs.
  • Is directly involved in the treatment planning for clients and families who require management input / consultation for decision-making purposes.
  • Works closely with coordinator(s) and Clinical Manager(s) regarding admissions and discharges from day treatment to minimize vacancies and duration of treatment.
  • Aids the Clinical Director to address all requests for records, support letters, and verification of services.
  • Responsible for implementing quality assurance and evaluation processes as well as monitoring the collection and recording of both clinical and service data and that all data is submitted on a timely basis as per organizational standards.

 

 

  • PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
  • Hires, trains, develops and manages all day treatment Child and Family Therapists
  • Support coaching and training of all front-line staff on a consistent basis ensuring that assessment and intervention are linked to comprehensive treatment plans and that all legislative and best practice requirements are met.
  • Ensures the completion of orientation and all training requirements by direct reports.
  • Ensures that all employees maintain and develop the competencies defined for their role, and establish individual performance improvement plans as needed.
  • Provides leadership around positive staff engagement and morale by supporting the well-being of staff through supervision, agency staff retention strategies, professional development, and practices that support work/ life balance.
  • Ensures that all direct reports work in a safe manner in accordance with health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.
  • Ensures that all direct reports provide flexible, inclusive service with a diverse population and strive to ensure culturally sensitivity.
  • Actively participates in all management activities as required.
  • Conducts probationary and annual performance evaluations of direct reports as required.

 

 

  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
  • Facilitates regular team meetings to discuss administrative and clinical issues that affect the team or clients, and to assist staff in problem solving and best practices.
  • Works closely with related departments, staff and managers to ensure integration and good teamwork among multidisciplinary team members (e.g. CYW’s, other Managers, Consultants).
  • Ensures that program assessment processes are followed to determine eligibility for intensive programs and services in a timely, client-focused and solution-focused way.
  • Develops and maintains program procedures and guidelines and the highest standards of practice in collaboration with senior management.
  • Maintains positive relationships with community partners including school boards and child welfare agencies, by attending client meetings and community tables as needed.
  • Supports timely data collection regarding service provision and outcomes.
  • Works collaboratively with assigned school board representatives (e.g. Care and Treatment Coordinators or designates) to ensure clear communication, good teamwork, and integrated planning around children and youth. 

 

  • TRAINING AND EDUCATION
  • Maintains a training and development plan in relevant areas for the Child and Family Therapists, and program staff based on agency endorsed clinical constructs and therapeutic models.
  • Ensures that all direct reports receive adequate supervision in approved treatment models to maintain fidelity and up-to-date certification/ credentials.
  • Supports direct reports to maintain licensure/ registration with their provincial colleges by enabling continuing education opportunities and providing regular, recorded supervision hours.

 

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute to the knowledge base of child and adolescent mental health and current trends and evidence-based practice.
  • Good knowledge of child and adolescent mental health programs, child welfare and education systems, relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Experience in supervision and management.
  • Effective priority setting and decision-making skills, the ability to meet deadlines and accommodate competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to function well on a team of peers to plan, support, and collaborate around projects together.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of computer software to generate and exchange information.
  • Ability to effectively use supervision to find solutions that balance the needs of workers and teams while supporting organizational priorities and policies.
  • To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Registration within appropriate governing body.
  • 5 plus years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience using various clinical modalities and evidence-based practices.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health legislation and regulations.
  • Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Must possess a valid vulnerable sector screen
