Mental Health Clinician

Five (5) contract positions (December 2021 - December 2022), with a possibility of extension

A Registered Mental Health Professional who is experienced working in culturally diverse communities, and committed to the principles of anti-oppression and anti-racism, will find in this role with the Peel District School Board (PDSB) an exciting opportunity to make a real difference.

Reporting to the Coordinating Principal of Social-Emotional Learning and Well-Being – Student Support, you will be part of the Mental Health Resource Team, working under the Coordinator of Student Well-Being, and will be clinically supervised by the Managers of Social Work or within the Department of Psychology. With your solid understanding of issues facing diverse communities represented in the Peel District School Board, including, but not limited to, African/Black/Afro-Caribbean, Indigenous, 2SGLBTQ+, disabled/persons with disabilities, Muslim and Sikh identities, you will provide services and support to students in a variety of ways that identify and address barriers to the well-being of underserved populations of students. There is an expectation that you will integrate equity, anti-racism and anti-oppressive practices into all professional services, with a mindset to work collaboratively with families in the Peel community.

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will provide professional development to a variety of PDSB staff related to mental health awareness and literacy, including developing capacity in staff to understand the lived experience and identities of under-served students, along with treating individuals and groups of students who are identified as needing your professional expertise. You have both the expertise and the confidence to provide support to the PDSB’s suicide prevention, intervention and post-prevention initiatives, as well as provide evidence-informed, school-based interventions for students, generally at the Tier 2 level of need. This collaborative role will see you partnering with school-based social workers and psycho-educational consultants in identifying, and intervening with, students who have mental health concerns, working closely with community agencies and advocacy groups, and coordinating with other school staff across multiple disciplines to support individuals and families. We will rely on you to translate your superior clinical knowledge of psycho-social issues into the educational system to improve the mental health and well-being of students, and use your experience working with individuals from cultural communities to provide culturally safe, reflective, relevant and affirming care, while being mindful of, and responsive to, other intersecting identities.

These one-year, full-time contracts are year-round positions.
