This position includes rotational on-call/after hour duties. The candidate must be completely accessible by cell phone during this period.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Social Worker will be working in Springboard’s Youth Transitional House, which is a 6 bed housing program designed to support healing and reduce the longer-term impacts of trauma for young cis- and transgender girls aged 12-17 who are at-risk of being or have been sexually trafficked and exploited, experiencing trauma and violence in their lives. We serve a vulnerable population that is likely to have child welfare involvement with an intent to return children to families, where appropriate and/or support independent reintegration to the community. It is expected that the youth we support will stay for an average of 18 months. We envision a space that is caring, inclusive, and therapeutic – a place that people can call home. This is a program that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Social Worker will enable wraparound services to address a broad range of challenges and needs of the youth and their access to existing community resources and supports appropriate to their needs.   All services and supports delivered will be grounded in a trauma-informed, resiliency model of care.  They will be able to work well in a dynamic work and team setting and will be expected to work both day and evening shifts at the house. The Social Worker will have the responsibility for providing specialized trauma informed counseling and case management supports to the youth. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary counselling and case management support for the youth.
• Active case management for youth; preparing and sharing case notes and plan updates in a timely manner to the staff team and other appropriate programs/partners.
• Accurately interface with technology systems for data management and to provide statistics.
• Acts as a liaison with outside agencies and referral sources to coordinate service plans for youth
• Provide counselling support to youth through a trauma-informed framework to address mental health/substance use issues.
• Respond with Crisis Intervention in situations of physical confrontation, and medical and psychiatric emergencies for youth who have recently experienced trauma.
• Responsible for facilitating family engagement where appropriate.
• Responsible for assisting youth through immigration/refugee process as required.
• Participate in any data collection activities that support program evaluation.
• Work in collaboration with the Assistant Supervisor and Supervisor and provide leadership support to the staff
• Provide support, leadership, guidance and Human Resource management to program staff, students and volunteers.
• Ability to climb 3 flights of stairs with approximately 40 steps

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) required; Masters of Social Work (MSW) preferred.
• Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working with youth who have experienced trauma in their lives.
• Case management and/or clinical counselling experience
• CPI, ASIST, First Aid, CPR and basic computer skills and a willingness to participate in on-going training.
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrate initiative, critical thinking and a self-directed working style.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices and needs of youth who have experienced trauma.
• Knowledge of adolescent development theory and specific issues related to at risk youth.
• Working knowledge of Resiliency theory and Stages of Change.
• Supervisory experience providing direction and motivation to staff, students and volunteers.
