Purpose of the position:
The purpose of this program is two-fold: first, to provide culturally sensitive direct clinical services to individuals experiencing early episode psychosis and their families within the District of Muskoka-Parry Sound. The incumbent is responsible for rapid identification and assessment of early episode clients and for intervention(s) and treatment following best practices recommendations. The incumbent will provide psycho-education groups to early episode clients and families; develop shared care approaches and creative family support initiatives; and, work with district clinicians and families to develop and sustain a family support network throughout the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound. The incumbent will provide specialized training and consultation throughout the districts on an ongoing basis. The incumbent is responsible for delivering high quality assessment and individual/group treatment/therapy intervention(s) following best practice recommendations.
Education and Qualifications:
• University degree or higher in a human service/health science AND post-graduate specialization in the theoretical foundations of providing psychotherapy.
• Registration with a college who grants the right to practice the protected act of psychotherapy.
• Familiar with Early Psychosis Intervention standards from Early Psychosis Intervention Ontario Network
• Knowledge of Aboriginal populations within the traditional territories of Muskoka and Parry Sound
• Identify and describe a range of traditional and non-traditional healing and wellness practices and sources of expertise including elders and healers.
• Experience working with Aboriginal communities or organizations is an asset
• Knowledge and experience applying cultural practices within a therapeutic relationship is an asset
• Knowledge of cultural history and health status of Aboriginal peoples in Ontario including the historical and current government practices that influence health status. This may include colonization, residential schools, treaties and land claims.
• Familiarity with the issues and strategies related to improving access to culturally appropriate wellness services for Aboriginal peoples is an asset.
• Knowledge and experience in providing psychotherapy with individuals, groups, and families with
mental illness and substance use disorder
• Practical experience and knowledge of serious mental illnesses usually gained by at least one (1) year of working with people who have serious mental illness.
• Education and training in Aboriginal culture an asset.
• Clinical knowledge and experience with mental health issues and the utilization of specific clinical treatment modalities and case management principles
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a rural setting
• Experience working with computers and software such as Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word
• Bilingual in French is an asset
• A valid driver’s license and a safe reliable means of transportation
• To work days/evenings/weekends depending on the Agency’s requirements
Salary scale: $33.18 - $40.91 per hour commensurate with experience and qualifications
