POSITION TITLE:         Mental Health Clinician

SALARY:                     $96,118 - $101,267 per annum
STATUS:                      Three (3) permanent positions
LOCATION:                  York Regional Police Headquarters

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Provide intake and psychotherapy appointments to members.
  • Delivers Safeguard sessions to members.
  • Responds to members in crisis and act as a liaison for referrals to external supports.
  • Coordinate and deliver mental health programming for designated areas.
  • Provide education and training sessions for supervisors and members on a variety of mental health topics.
  • Manage scheduling of personal mental health sessions.
  • Maintain protected health records using highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Respond to critical incidents and implement YRPs critical incident related procedures.
  • Travel to various designated work sites across York Region to engage with members.
  • Gather data on effectiveness of services and report deidentified data for program evaluation.
  • Present data to YRP leaders on mental health programming.
  • Collaborate with Wellness Staff to meet strategic objectives in a timely fashion.

    Develop and deliver research focused presentations to external psychologists on police relevant subjects.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Counselling, Social Work, or recognized equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Current registration as a Social Worker or Psychotherapist in good standing with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers of Ontario, or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-graduate experience with demonstrated training and experience in evidence-based short-term treatment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICIATIONS

  • Critical and creative thinking skills in order to develop solutions for and decide on appropriate interventions and referrals to be made for members suffering from a variety of psychological concerns including PTSD, depression and substance abuse.
  • Advanced writing skills in order to create reports and documents using technical language to influence or affect the decisions of senior management.
  • High level of verbal communication and conflict resolution skills. Tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues of members.
  • Research and analytical skills to identify issues and determine appropriate responses.
  • Program development, training design and case management skills.
  • Experience in providing mental health services to first responders.
