Fly-In Counsellor, Indigenous Services

Over the past several years, Dalton Associates has been honoured to develop strong partnerships with Indigenous communities and regional councils in Northern Ontario to support the development of regional and community-based mental health and wellness programs that are tailored to the unique needs of the region/communities. We use a team approach that assigns consistent, Masters-level registered mental health providers per community, who have cultural expertise and training. Our service approach, supported by our Indigenous Community Advisory Team and the First Nations Wellness Continuum Framework, is based upon the principles of:

Dalton Associates is seeking Masters-level regulated Indigenous therapists, familiar with Northern Ontario and Nishnawbe Aski Nation region communities, for the position of Counsellor. The Counsellor will provide in person therapeutic services for people in Mushkegowuk region communities. Utilizing a person-centered approach to therapy/counselling, Counsellors are able to support individuals (children, youth and adults), couples and families experiencing a wide range of bio-psycho-social challenges.

Clinical Practice:

Counsellors should have experience and skill in a variety of therapeutic modalities. Requested counselling/therapeutic services include, but are not limited to:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
  • Trauma Therapy
  • Grief Counselling
  • Psychotherapy
  • Couples Counselling
  • Family Counselling
  • Child, Youth, and Adolescent Counselling
  • Pre and Post Intensive Treatment Support (for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Substance Use Disorder, and etc.)
  • Substance Use/Addiction Counselling

Service Requirements:

The Counsellor will be committed to providing services in 2-week rotations (2 weeks in community, and 2 weeks / 4 weeks off) for a period of 1 year minimum.

The Counsellor will support community members with one-to-one counselling, administrative and coordination duties, and remote travel, reporting to the Dalton Associates Coordinator. Specifics duties include:

  • Fly-in to remote community for two weeks;
  • Participate in community and program expectations of professionalism and cultural safety;
  • Review consent with clients, as well as the client’s right to privacy and limits therein;
  • Develop rapport and trust with clients through long- term communication efforts and commitment;
  • Provide clients with counselling support in- person, under your own license as a counsellor;
  • Determine if additional follow-up sessions are required for the client, or if longer-term supports are required;
  • Communicate the plan with the Mental Health Case Manager and Coordinator;
  • Document Session Notes on secure clinical platform; and,
  • Participate in team meetings, organized and facilitated by the Coordinator and/or Project Manager at Dalton Associates.

Contract position, commensurate based on experience.
