Chief Executive Officer

The Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) is a professional organization representing over 5,600 members as the voice of the social work profession in Ontario. Founded in 1964, OASW seeks to: expand awareness of the value of social workers; build relationships to advance our profession and increase the impact of our advocacy on behalf of our members and their clients; and foster engagement with current and future practitioners to strengthen both the wide-ranging field of Social Work and the Association. OASW is committed to working with government to advance the Association's strategic priorities and directions, including advocating for the improvement of policies and programs directly affecting social work practice and the client groups served. Political advocacy work focuses on three key areas on behalf of its members: Social Determinants of Health, Human Rights, and Promotion of the Profession.

With the upcoming retirement of OASW’s long-serving CEO, the organization seeks an outstanding new leader to take the Association to its next level of achievement in serving as the voice for social workers in Ontario. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for the successful operations, financial management, team development and strategic leadership of the organization.

For this position, the Board wishes to recruit a visionary CEO with a track record of success in leadership, advocacy and strategically advancing an organization towards its mission. The ideal candidate is an inclusive, authentic and inspirational leader with outstanding relationship building skills. Possessing excellent communication and critical thinking skills, the individual sought understands the professional identity of social workers and is attuned to the changing landscape of the profession in Ontario. With a collaborative working style and an excellent ability to engage and motivate others, the CEO will develop strong, productive relationships with current and prospective members, the Board, staff, government, partner organizations and sector allies. A degree in social work (BSW and/or MSW) with 10+ years of experience is required. Bilingualism (French and English) and strong governance knowledge or experience working with a Board of Directors would be definite assets.
