JEAN TWEED CENTRE, a community based treatment centre for women with substance use, mental health and gambling problems and their families, invites applicants for the following position:

 

 

FAMILY PROGRAM COUNSELLOR – Family Services

Permanent - Part Time

Three days a Week

 

Jean Tweed Centre is a leading, community based organization that provides a safe and supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and/or gambling issues.  Recognizing the diversity of women’s experience in today’s society, our program seeks to address a range of issues in a woman’s life that may contribute to substance use and gambling problems.  Understanding each woman’s experience within the broader physical, emotional, social, and cultural and gender framework, we provide a client-centered approach to health recovery.

 

Family Services is a Jean Tweed program that includes family and couple counselling, group counselling, and educational workshops related to family issues for women with substance useand/or gambling concerns and their families. This permanent, part time Family Counsellor position is for 22.5 hours a week over three days including one evening.   Services are provided at the Centre.  The position comes with benefits including dental, extended health and long term disability.

 

The individual hired for this position will:

Provide specialized family and couple counselling to support clients’ substance use and gambling related change goals;
Facilitate a family support group for family members of women with substance use and/or gambling concerns.
Conduct workshops regarding family and relationship dynamics and the development of healthy relationships.
Actively participate in outpatient meetings and contribute to program development in coordination with the Director of Clinical Services. Possess significant experience and skills in family and couple counselling
Provide services within a trauma informed, anti-oppressive framework
Provide a learning experience for volunteers and students;  and
Complete data entry and report writing in a timely fashion.

Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years experience providing family group therapy and couple therapy
Minimum 3 years experience working with women, families and substance misuse
Masters degree in Social Work (preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in an all-female oriented, trauma informed, anti-oppressive environment Ability to prepare and present information in both formal and informal settings
Knowledge of problem gambling
First Aid/CPR Certification
