Critical Incident Case Manager Glendon (Bilingual)

In this role, you will provide crisis intervention and support to students experiencing a crisis as well as support to the next of kin or others impacted in the case of serious injury or death of a student. The incumbent is often the first point of contact, responding effectively to critical incidents by assessing and addressing the service needs of the student, making appropriate arrangements, referrals and continuous contact. The incumbent is the advisor and primary liaison with appropriate York University and external community contacts to address critical incidents when they occur, and to proactively communicate critical incident procedures. This position also liaises with faculty, parents, administrators, and students regarding students of concern (often struggling with mental health issues) as well as providing care and support to students with multiple complex issues and provides referrals to ensure that support is in place as much as possible. The Critical Incident Case Manager also provides support to the Glendon Community by addressing challenging student behaviour to ensure compliance with community standards and values as established in the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities (CSRR). Primary responsibilities include carrying a caseload and facilitating the resolution of student conduct complaints and inquiries. The incumbent is responsible for investigating complaints and applying a variety of dispute resolution techniques to resolve the disputes. The incumbent also refers cases to a Local Adjudicator or the University Tribunal as appropriate. The incumbent coordinates materials and facilitates arrangements for hearings before the University Tribunal or Local Adjudicators. The incumbent assists with the administration of policy and regulation objectives, and takes appropriate action across a wide range of responsibilities of the Office, including working to resolve complaints by Glendon community members, advising persons of options available to them, developing and implementing special assignments delegated by the Director, Student Affairs, Office of Student Affairs, and other forms of informal and dispute resolution as appropriate to support our most vulnerable students to be successful members of the York community, Glendon Campus. The principal aims of the objectives stated above are to mitigate the risk associated with students exhibiting challenging or concerning behaviour and contribute to maintaining the institutional reputation of the University using approaches and practices that ensure a thriving, safe and inclusive community for all (students, faculty and staff).

To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:

Bachelors degree in, Social Work, Psychology or Education and mental health and dispute resolution training. Masters Degree preferred. 3-5 years progressive experience dealing with critical incident, crisis management and student conduct cases. Post-secondary experience advising related to student conduct / critical incident management/coordination is preferred. Knowledge of York University community resources (CDS, Women's Centre, food bank, Safe house etc.), Toronto area resources, and York safety and emergency procedures are assets as well as experience in the use and application alternate dispute resolution and understanding of administrative law principles.
