Director of the School of Social Work

Renison University College, affiliated with the University of Waterloo and located on the territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Attawandaron (Neutral) peoples, invites applications for the position of Director of the School of Social Work. The successful candidate will exhibit distinction in educational leadership, administration, teaching, research and scholarship, and social work service. This is a full time tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to begin July 1, 2018.

Renison University College is a dynamic, growing community of scholars offering innovative academic programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Bachelor of Social Work, and Master of Social Work degrees. All degrees are awarded by the University of Waterloo. The MSW is Canada’s first health-focused online Master of Social Work program and is offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo.

The School of Social Work prepares social work practitioners through an accessible and inclusive curriculum, at both baccalaureate and masters levels, in a learning environment that fosters caring and competent social work practice within regional, national, and international contexts, and embraces principles of justice and equity.

Applicant Profile - While we understand that not every candidate will demonstrate excellence in each of the areas listed below, the following describes our ideal candidate:

Applicants for this senior position will possess a PhD in Social Work (or related field) with at least one graduate degree in Social Work. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of the policies and standards governing Social Work education in Canada, an adherence to the Canadian Social Work code of ethics, and an awareness of alternative codes of ethics. We seek a collaborative leader who is able to inspire students, faculty, staff, and community partners, and who will work to enhance the research profile and reputation of the program locally, nationally, and internationally. The Director must demonstrate strong strategic visioning and leadership skills, with a focus on equity and collaborative team-building. Candidates should have an excellent record of scholarly research and publications, strong administrative leadership experience, accomplishment in University teaching, and a solid understanding and advocacy of multi-modal, on-line learning. Candidates should also have strong professional networks and the ability to initiate community partnered research projects. Additionally, an understanding of field education as the signature pedagogy of the social work profession must be demonstrated.
