The School of Social Work, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies at York University invites applications from highly qualified candidates for the role of Director of the School of Social Work. This is a professorial stream, tenure-track appointment at the Associate/Full Professor level. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2022, or a mutually agreeable start date. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will be appointed in the Director’s role on a three-year term with the possibility of renewal for another three years, after which time they will become a part of the school’s faculty complement. Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, the Director plays a vital role in the leadership, administration and collegial governance of the School, fostering a culture where education, scholarship and service can flourish. The Director advocates, promotes and articulates the School's interests in all aspects of university affairs. Key accountabilities include:

Providing administrative leadership of the School, including human resources, operational oversight, mentoring, financial management and academic/accreditation program reviews;

Fostering and supporting a culture of research and scholarship excellence and pedagogy that fits with the values of the School;

Fostering and supporting the professional development of Social Workers through excellence in the education and training of Social Work students leading to their successful accreditation;

Supporting collaborative and collegial practices that include open and transparent communication;

Promoting and upholding the School’s commitment to collegiality in all aspects of decision-making.

The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies at York is accredited to train and educate Social Workers, and is committed to doing so in a progressive and socially responsive manner. The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of excellence in research, teaching and university leadership, including at least three years of leadership experience in a university setting. They will also hold a PhD in Social Work or related Social Work fields and either a master’s or a bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
