Concierge (Eveneing)

<p>YWCA Elm Centre includes 300 units of permanent housing for three different resident groups: 165 affordable rental units, 50 units for Indigenous women and their families (including 10 women-led families fleeing violence) and 85 units for women with mental health or concurrent mental health and substance use challenges. The program rovide services to the entire residential community, with a dual focus on community building and individualized supports.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Reporting to the Associate Manager of Elm Housing Support Program, the <strong>Concierge&rsquo;s responsibilities include:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Provide a welcoming and supportive reception; work within a collaborative team to create a meaningful environment for tenants and guests. Work within a feminist framework that includes a skilled response to, and knowledge of, the dynamics and effects of trauma, mental health and oppression;</li> <li>schedule appointments for the Women&rsquo;s College Clinic operating at Elm; schedule tenant booking of communal spaces the Jack Layton Lounge, Nancy&rsquo;s Auditorium, and the Winona Community Lounge;</li> <li>assist in providing orientation to new tenants to ensure familiarity and understanding of programs, staff and community environment;</li> <li>responds to on-site emergency needs by using the&nbsp; on-call procedures (i.e. Directors, Property Services and Housing Support program staff);</li> <li>take corrective action when responding to potential safety hazards; ensure hazards are reported to the appropriate personnel;</li> <li>report all disturbances, vandalism or other emergencies to the supervisor; complete an incident report as required;</li> <li>liasion with with appropriate staff including Housing Workers, Community Engagement staff and Property Services;</li> <li>engage in other duties as required.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>You will have: </strong></p> <ul> <li>Completion of an undergraduate university degree in a relevant field (e.g. Social Work);</li> <li>ability to use equipment relevant to the position i.e., computer, phone system, security monitoring;</li> <li>1 to 3 years directly related experience within supportive housing;</li> <li>completion of the Toronto Hostel Training&nbsp; Centre&rsquo;s certificate an asset;</li> <li>knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act;</li> <li>strong interpersonal skills;</li> <li>exceptional verbal and written communication skills;</li> <li>knowledge and experience in de-escalating conflict;</li> <li>knowledge and experience in responding to crisis situations;</li> <li>ability to interact in a respectful and professional manner with a diverse community of women, their families and guests within a supportive housing environment;</li> <li>experience working with diverse individuals and groups e.g. cultural diversity, gender, abilities, religion, race, sexual orientation, etc.;</li> <li>demonstrate knowledge of and experience working with women living with experiences of precarious housing, poverty, violence/trauma, and mental health/concurrent addictions issues;</li> <li>knowledge and experience working from an anti-oppression framework and trauma informed practice;</li> <li>knowledge of harm reduction framework;</li> <li>ability to follow all safety policies and procedures within the work area and respond properly to emergency or safety situations;</li> <li>ability to think independently, demonstrate good judgment, problem-solving skills and effective decision-making skills;</li> <li>must be organized and detail-oriented;</li> <li>ability to work well under pressure;</li> <li>knowledge of security operating systems an asset;</li> <li>knowledge and ability to communicate in a second language an asset;</li> <li>experience working in a residential setting an asset;</li> <li>completion of WHMIS training an asset.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Core Competencies:&nbsp; </strong>The employee is expected to:</p> <ul> <li>Engage in a self-reflective and collaborative practice that is non-judgmental, compassionate and reflects the mission of YWCA Toronto;</li> <li>incorporate principles of anti-oppression and equity in responding to the service needs of women and children;</li> <li>work toward removing systemic barriers to independence and wellbeing;</li> <li>demonstrate respect, consideration and acceptance of the opinions of others, while expressing expertise and effectively utilizing relevant resources and specialists;</li> <li>consistently collaborate with team members, sharing ideas and differences openly; be receptive to new ideas and adapt to change as necessary;</li> <li>value the contribution of others and take action to strengthen partnerships and support others to achieve effective outcomes;</li> <li>take action to avoid or solve problems and create opportunities for positive change;</li> <li>demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.</li> </ul> <p>The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 3:00pm &ndash; 10:00pm (35 hours per week).&nbsp;&nbsp; The salary for this position is $46,603 per annum (Level 5), plus comprehensive benefits. &nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Please note</strong>: A police reference check is required by the successful candidate prior to hiring.&nbsp; YWCA Toronto is a unionized workplace; Staff are represented by CUPE Local 2189.
