About the Opportunity 

N’Mninoeyaa’s Community Support Services is seeking a Geriatric Social Worker to join its dynamic, self-motivated group of health care professionals. 

Working collaboratively, you will provide psychosocial assessments, diagnosis and treatments and interventions directed at enhancing dignity, self-determination, personal fulfillment, quality of life, optimal functioning, and ensuring the least restrictive living environment possible within the seven partner First Nation communities of the North Shore Tribal Council. 

This is a unique work experience for a social worker who is interested in becoming a key member of a team that addresses the health care issues of First Nation and aboriginal seniors.

To qualify, you must have a Degree in Social Work and be registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers. Experience in working in geriatrics, gerontology, aging, or social work with older adults is essential.

Demonstrated sensitivity to, and an understanding of the Aboriginal Cultural Values and Traditions will be essential to your success, as is knowledge and the ability to work with people with diverse practices, cultures and beliefs.

You are proficient using computers including mobile phones and you have the capacity to participate in care planning to meet clients’ physical, psychosocial, cultural and emotional needs.

You will also possess:

  • Community experience working with the elderly
  • An adaptable and flexible attitude
  • A clear criminal reference check is a condition of employment
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

Funding for this position is provided under the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal for Jordan’s Principle acknowledging the caregiver role grandparents play in supporting the family.  The Geriatric Social Worker also act as a link for the children to the Nogdawindamin Family and Community Services to ensure a wholistic approach to supporting the family.
