Executive Director

Executive Director

Few positions offer the opportunity to have as much impact on the lives of children, youth and families living in Canada’s largest and most culturally diverse city. This mandate calls for a visionary who welcomes the exciting challenges and opportunities inherent in a high-profile leadership role.

The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto (CCAS), a highly respected leader in the child welfare sector in Ontario, is one of 49 Children’s Aid Societies in the province and the 2nd largest board-operated urban child welfare agency in Canada, with just under 500 staff, 180+ volunteers and approximately 100 foster parents serving over 4,500 families per year. Incorporated as a not-for-profit agency, with core funding from The Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services, the Society operates under the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

The CCAS is looking for an outcome-focused Executive Director who, reporting to the President of the Board of Directors, will provide exceptional leadership in the efficient and effective management of the Children's Aid Society which, on behalf of the Catholic community, is committed to providing social services that protect children and strengthen family life.

A collaborative leader, you will develop a strong visionary Executive Team responsible for directing specialized departments, work closely with this team on developing a strategic vision and directions to guide the CCAS in changing times, and provide strategic leadership in the planning and delivery of services, while fostering an organization-wide culture of continuous improvement and quality outcomes. As Executive Director, it will also be your role to keep the Board apprised of potential risk and other matters, such as significant service, financial, human resource or public relations issues.

This is a comprehensive mandate with accountability for managing funding allocations in order to meet ongoing and critical needs, and verifying that sound planning, decision-making and financial management, reporting and control processes are in place and operating well. Ensuring that legislative and other requirements are met, you will focus on effectiveness of service and financial integrity. At the same time, you will make sure that staff understand their roles and are motivated to excel, and that quality assurance processes are in place to measure and demonstrate positive outcomes for children, youth, and families served.

A confident, persuasive communicator and relationship builder, you will promote the interests of children and families by working with community organizations and partners, liaising with the media, identifying opportunities to improve linkages, joint ventures and funding, as well as developing and maintaining good relations with child welfare organizations – locally, nationally and internationally.

As the ideal candidate, you will combine an understanding of the values, traditions, structures and diverse communities across Toronto with current knowledge of child welfare issues, trends and best practices in Ontario. This expertise is well supported by a Master of Social Work and demonstrated progressive, senior management experience in a large, public sector unionized environment (preferably child welfare related), specifically within a diverse racial, ethnic and linguistic urban community, or an equivalent background.

Committed to social justice and able to advocate on behalf of the vulnerable population served, you understand the unique roles that technology, human resources, finance, legal and public relations play in supporting direct services to children and families, and have a proven track record of strategic and tactical success in turning a vision into reality. Ultimately, your ability to partner with board, government, social agencies, parishes and schools, and work with a strong senior management team will drive your success in this multi-stakeholder environment.
