For 76 years Family Service Thames Valley (FSTV) has helped individuals, couples and families in London/Middlesex communities build the strengths, skills and confidence to deal with life’s opportunities and challenges.  The FSTV team supports the well-being of people, organizations and communities through counselling, education, advocacy, planning, support and outreach.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Executive Director is responsible for:  leading and managing the affairs of FSTV in accordance with legislation, letters patent, by laws and policies set by the Board of Directors; creating an organization and an environment that align with FSTV’s Outcomes Policies and the shared Vision for the future.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Achieving outcomes (ends) established by the Board of Directors as well as supporting and interacting with the Board of Directors;

  • Strategic Planning based on Board established outcomes;

  • Legislation and Policy;

  • Partnerships with Like-Minded Organizations;

  • Linkage with Funders;

  • Representing the Organization;

  • Client Service Programs (for individuals, couples and families) including:  Community Counselling;  Community Integration.

  • Enterprise and Development Services (programs to generate revenues) including:  Credit Counselling; Employee Assistance Program.

  • Corporate Services including:  Communications Management;  Financial Management ($3.8M budget);  Human Resources Management; Information Systems Management; Operations Management;Physical Facilities Management;  Risk Management.

  • Quality Assurance.

 

The ideal candidate will offer:

Education

  • A Master’s degree is required.  Although the Executive Director does not directly supervise clinicians, a Master of Social Work degree or a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling is preferred.  However, an academic equivalent (e.g. Master of Business Administration, Master of Education, etc.) will be considered in combination with appropriate Experience detailed below.

  • Legislation and Policy;

  • Public Relations;

  • Small Business and Social Enterprise;

  • Public Funding for social service agencies.

  • Leadership:  ability to lead an organization through significant transition and change.

  • Strategy:  capacity to work at a strategic level.

  • Advocacy:  commitment to disadvantaged, marginalized or vulnerable people.

  • Client Focus:  skill in designing and developing relevant Products, Programs and Services.

  • Enterprise and Development:  business savvy to generate revenues in a competitive environment (traditional funding, fund development, social enterprise).  

  • Communications:  ability to relate with diverse stakeholders in plain language.

  • Financial Management:  ability to manage a $3.8 M budget.

  • Human Resources Management:  the Emotional Intelligence for effective Talent Management.

  • Information Systems Management:  the ability to lead Systems Thinking to break down silos and facilitate collaboration.

  • Operations Management:  ability to lead the development of departmental Strategic Plans as well as Personal Performance Goals aligned with the Strategic Plan.

  • Partnerships:  ability to collaborate, build and sustain strategic relationships, packaging and marketing the value and place of FSTV in the community; an active networker;

  • Physical Facilities Management:  the ability to manage both owned and leased properties;

  • Risk Management:  the ability to identify and control risks;

  • Outcomes (End):  the ability to work within a measurable results based model;

  • Quality Assurance:  the ability to maintain Accreditation standards.  

 

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ senior leadership experience in a field related to Family Services is required.  Such service could be with:  a Children’s Aid Society, Community Counselling (e.g. Credit, Developmental-Integration Services, Mental Health), Employee Assistance Program, etc.

  • Experience with Accreditation, Outcomes and Policy Governance Framework is essential.

 

Special Considerations

  • Completion of a satisfactory Police Information Check;

  • Valid Driver’s License, clean driver’s abstract, appropriate insurance and access to a reliable vehicle;

  • Availability for evening and weekend meetings and events as well as occasional overnight travel out of town.
